The Beginning of Our Trip: Lima/Cusco, Peru

Hi, everyone who's reading this! I'm Jennifer Baggett or just Jen to make it easier for you.

This blog will be about our travels across the world. The continents that we will be visiting are South America, Africa, Asia, New Zealand, and Australia. We'll keep you guys updated on all the juicy details of our trip.

Honestly, I didn't really want to do this blog. It was mainly Amanda and Holly who wanted to do this. I know. I didn't want to do this and yet I'm the first one to post on our blog.

Anyways, this online journal entry starts our adventure right now.

June 2007
Lima/Cusco, Peru

After our little vacation in Brazil and Argentina, Amanda Pressner, Holly C. Corbett, and I wanted to take another trip around the world. At the time, we were just joking around. Who would have known that we would actually do this whole crazy adventure?

We all started the flight from New York to Miami, Florida. Then, the flight from Miami connected right to Lima, Peru. When we arrived in Lima, Peru, Holly was freaking out about how she lost her bag when we were at the Lima airpart. The problem was that Holly tried to take out some vaccination for typhoid in Miami. We guessed that people got suspicious of the vaccination inside of her bag, so the police at the airport in Miami took the bag for inspection.

Don't worry though. In the end, Amanda called the airport in Miami and cleared the whole problem. Holly's bag would be sent right to our hostel in Lima.

After two days in Lima, we returned to the airport and flew to Cusco. Cusco was called "The City of the Sun." We visited the Cusco Cathedral. The Cathedral took our breath away as we stared at its intricate designs.

Isn't it beautiful?!

After exploring the Churches and checking into our hostel, a few of the fellow backpackers at our hostel told us about this party that was going to happen that night. In English, it was called the Fallen Angel party. Since all the other backpackers said they were going, we decided to go too. I mean, it was our first party out of the country! We had to go!

The Fallen Angel party only let people in if they dressed up as angels themselves. That seemed silly, but we really got into it. We went to Cusco's shopping district and bought the right supplies for making angel wings. After we finished making the angel wings, we put on our wings and wore the only dresses that we brought.

We traveled to the place where the party was held. We were sucked into the crowd as we entered the club. The party was amazing. Everyone was dressed in angel costumes like we were, and everyone was dancing their hearts out. We joined in and immediately felt like we belonged in Cusco.

We returned to our hostel. We were totally beat and tired. All three of us fell right asleep.

After a few days of exploring Cusco, Amanda and Holly suddenly became sick. Amanda had a really high fever while Holly had food poisoning.

This was really bad,  because we were supposed to go hiking on the Inca Trail the next day.

The doctor had told us that it wasn't possible for Amanda to go with her high fever, but Holly could go. Holly would be better the next day, just in time for the hike.

I was still disappointed though. We had been spending time together all the time. If Holly and I were to do this hike alone, it wouldn't be worth it. It wouldn't feel the same.

The doctor injected a needle into Amanda, so she could recover faster.

During the early morning, I heard rustling. I woke up to find Amanda up and drying her hair from her shower. Holly and I had told her to rest since she was sick. She told us it was better to rest and not go on the trail; however, she was determined to go on the hike anyway.
